WestMinCom chief Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, during his visit on Wednesday (October 23), assured the people of Tawi-Tawi that maritime security in the waters of the island province is one of the command’s foremost concern.
The commander, together with his command staff, drop-round in the islands of Tawi-Tawi to assess the security situation in the area and make an ocular inspection in an ongoing construction of Philippine Coast Guard Substation.
He was accompanied by BARMM Transportation and Communication Minister Dickson Hermoso.
“The proposed PCG Substation in the coastal area of Sibutu will help us to hamper local terrorist and pirates from creating fear to the local fisher folks,” said Lt. Gen. Sobejana.
“It will also help us to monitor the Sibutu strait from all vessel passing through,” the commander added.
On the other hand, security and economic dialogue was held with the local government of the Island Municipality of Sitangkai, Tawi-Tawi, participated by local officials.
In his message, Lt. Gen. Sobejana expressed his sincerest gratitude for the warm welcome accorded to him and his party and for the unwavering support in the WestMinCom’s peace efforts.
“Approved na ang power supply for Sitangkai from Qatar,” Lt. Gen. Sobejana said.
“We came here to protect and serve you. What we need is the convergence and good coordination. We are willing to sacrifice our life for peace and development,” he added.
Sitangkai is considered as the Venice Island of Southern Philippines.
Lt. Gen. Sobejana also visited the Sheik Makhdum Shrine in Sibutu.
