Government troops uncovered late last month an arms cache believed to be stockpiled by communist New People's Army in Zamboanga de Sur.
Captain Clint Antipala, spokesperson for the Army's 1st Infantry (TABAK) Division, said the cache was found in Barangay Pelukuban of Tambulig town on Agust 27, 2019.
“Valuable information from residents in the area helped the troops find stock of firearms,” said Lieutenant Colonet Ray Tiongson, 10th Infantry Battalion commander.
The arms cache was composed of two M16 and two M14 assault rifles, together with eight empty magazines of M14.

Tiongson said that the arms discovery took place after a clash where an NPA guerrilla was killed, and seven others were arrested.
Recovered during the encounter site were one M16 assault rifle, four caliber .45 pistols, seven hand grenades, three motorcycles, improvised explosive components, extortion money worth P50,000 and supply.
“This is another big blow to the CNTs of the Western Mindanao Regional Party Committee. The residents of the communities, whom they’ve terrorized are now against them and now supportive to our troops”, said Colonel Leonel Nicolas, commander of 102nd Infantry (IGSOON) Brigade which has operational jurisdiction over Zamboanga del Sur.
