From the Visayan Daily Star (Aug 9, 2019): Isabela working with Armyto end insurgency problem
Mayor Irene Montilla has vowed to work with the Philippine Army in ending the insurgency problem in Isabela, Negros Occidental.
Montilla said she was surprised during a meeting with all newly-elected local chief executives in Iloilo when told that Isabela was categorized under “Red status”, which she described as alarming.
The elected officials of Isabela led by Montilla were recently briefed by the 62nd Infantry Battalion headed by Lt. Col. Egberto Dacoscos on Executive Order 70 that institutionalizes the whole nation approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace, as well as the creation of a task force to end local communist armed conflict at the municipal level.
Dacoscos said the Isabela municipal officials assured him of their support in addressing the causes of insurgency problem in the town.
“We will go hand in hand in ending the insurgency in this town”, Montilla was quoted as saying in a press release issued yesterday by the 62IB.
Dacoscos said that the seven barangay captains of Isabela town also expressed their support to the implementation of Community Support Program (CSP) in their respective barangays.
He added that the call to declare the CPP-NPA as persona non grata was also discussed during the meeting, and forms part of 62IB thrust for transformation where local government units and other partner stakeholders are made primary actors in addressing socio-economic issues of the community.
