From the Visayan Daily Star (Aug 9, 2019): Duterte hikes bountyfor cop killers to P6M
“Pissed off” by the continued killings by the New People’s Army, President Rodrigo Duterte yesterday increased to P6 million the reward for the capture of those behind in the brutal killing of four police intelligence operatives in Ayungon, Negros Oriental, last month,
Duterte, in his speech during the oathtaking of newly-promoted police generals in Malacañang, said “Irrespective of police or civilians, whoever gets to him, that’s P6 million. Give to me his head”.
The police and military already arrested nine suspected NPA rebels, one of them positively identified by an eyewitness as among those who had summarily executed the four intelligence operatives of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7 on July 18 in Brgy. Mabato, Ayungon.
The incident was followed by the spate of killings in Negros Oriental, where it claimed the lives of 17 civilians, including a lawyer, barangay officials, Department of Education officials, a former mayor and a councilor.
The NPA claimed responsibility for the killing of the four policemen they accused as spying on the residents in the area, in line with the Oplan Sauron campaign plan of the PNP.
Duterte initially set the reward for the killers of the Negros policemen at P1 million during his visit to Negros Oriental.
