From the Manila Times (Aug 25, 2019): 1 NPA killed, 7 nabbed, 2 escape in Ozamiz City clash
A member of the New People’s Army (NPA) died while seven were arrested in separate clashes in Ozamiz City early on Sunday, a military official said.
Lt. Col. Ray Tiongson, commander of the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Battalion, said the first firefight happened at 5:50 a.m. in Barangay Bagacay where military troops from the same battalion and police from the 2nd mobile force company encountered 10 communist rebels, resulting in the arrest of three.
Tiongson told The Manila Times that the seven fleeing NPA rebels encountered government troops in Barangay Cogon, which resulted in the death of one of their comrades and the apprehension of four others. Two rebels managed to escape.
Tiongson said troops recovered an M16 rifle, four caliber .45 pistols, seven hand grenades, three motorcycles, improvised explosive components and food.
Two soldiers were wounded in the second encounter.
