NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – The Eastern Mindanao Command (EMC) through the Naval Forces Eastern Mindanao (NFEM) brought the Inter-Agency Health Mission and Immersion of the Region XI Inter-Agency Committee on Indigenous Peoples Health (RIACIPH) in the Island Municipality of Sarangani, Davao Occidental particularly at Barangay Camalig on May 21, 2019 via military vessel.

The activity which is being led by the Department of Health Region XI is part of the efforts of the Government in addressing the health concern of Indigenous Peoples and communities in Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (IP/GIDA), such as the Sarangani Island.

The said immersion that will last until May 23, 2019, includes the conduct of public information on the programs, thrusts, goods, and services of each participating agencies, other socio-economic activities, and on-site delivery of goods and services like 4Ps validation, PhilHealth enrolment, and others.

Aside from the Navy vessel and its crew, dental and paramedic teams from 1002nd Infantry Brigade 73rd Infantry Battalion, and 1205th Community Defense Center were likewise deployed to provide additional manpower and leadership; services, and to conduct information awareness on terrorism and violent extremism.

They joined the teams from NCIP, PNP, Phil Health, Population Commission, DSWD XI, TESDA, Southern Philippines Medical Center, DILG XI, Philippine Institute of Traditional Alternative Health Care, Provincial Social Welfare Development Office and Provincial Health Office of Davao Occidental and other participating agencies.

Accordingly, during the first day, about 600 people troop to the activity area to benefit from the medical mission.

“While we use them to maintain our presence in our territorial waters, our vessels are also being used literally as a bridge of government services to most isolated place in our area and contribute to the Government’s thrust of “inclusivity,” Lt. General Felimon T. Santos Jr., Commander of Eastern Mindanao Command expressed.

The Municipality of Sarangani is situated in the far south of Philippine Archipelago and compose of three islands (Olanivan, Balut, and Sarangani).
