Marawi City Vice Mayor Arafat Salic asked prosecutors to drop the rebellion charges against him over the Islamic State-inspired Maute Group's takeover of the city in 2017.
Salic, of Barangay Kabingan, Marawi City, Samer Salic, Wahid Salic, Edris Salid, and Alinor Abas were positively identified by witnesses as having taken up arms and opening fire in the streets while carrying a black IS flag and shouting slogans during the siege.
In his counter affidavit dated April 3 and made available to newsmen Wednesday, Arafat Salic said "he would never seek the removal of any territory, body of land, naval, or armed forces from their allegiance to the government or its laws."
In his sworn statement, he said he “would also not deprive the Chief Executive or the Congress of any of their powers and prerogatives” since he “is already part of the executive branch of government himself, having sought his election to his public office through means sanctioned by the constitution and our laws."
Salic claimed that his family was also a victim of the IS-Maute terrorists.
A witness claimed to have seen Salic along Osmeña St., Barangay Sabala Manaw Proper, firing his rifle three times and commanding other armed men to guard different roads, houses, government offices, and the city hall.
