Iligan cops nab Army personnel over illegal drugs

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 14, 2019): Iligan cops nab Army personnel over illegal drugs

Policemen arrested an Army soldier during a joint buy-bust operation in Barangay Poblacion Tuesday evening.

Police Capt. Austin Karl Tirol, team leader of the City Drug Enforcement Unit (CDEU) of the Iligan City Police Office, identified the suspect as Jonathan Villanzana Virtudazo, 27, a resident of Barangay Poblacion and an active member of the Army's 545th Engineering Battalion based in Patikul, Sulu.

Tirol described Virtudazo as a “newly-identified” drug personality and considered a high-value target.

"He is not in our drug personality watch list but he was identified lately as a pusher from the suspects we previously arrested who linked Virtudazo (to) their activities," he told local reporters on Wednesday.

Tirol said a poseur-buyer bought from the suspect a small sachet containing substance believed to be shabu worth PHP500.

During the frisking, the police official said they confiscated two more sachets of suspected shabu, a cellular phone, and the PHP500 bill used as buy-bust money.

Tirol said Virtudazo was charged under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
