From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Oct 10): FUTURE LEADERS | 3ID concludes 1st Regional Youth Leadership Summit
LA PAZ, Iloilo City (DWDD) – A closing ceremony of the 1st Regional Youth Leadership Summit (RYLS) in Western Visayas spearheaded by the Army’s 3rd Infantry “Spearhead” Division in partnership with the Youth for Peace Philippines (YFPP) was conducted at Iloilo Sports Complex, La Paz, Iloilo City on 07 September 2018, Sunday.
The ceremony was graced by Colonel Benedict Arevalo, the Commander of the 301st Infantry (Bayanihan) Brigade as keynote speaker, and witnessed by LTC Ericson Rosana, Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations, 3ID; Mr. John Patrick Onggao, President, National Youth for Peace and Development; and facilitators from 301st Bde, 61st Infantry Battalion, Regional Police office 6 and Youth for Peace Philippines.
Sixty-six (66) YLS graduates from the different provinces in Region 6 successfully completed the said 3-day leadership summit which commenced last October 05, 2018.
Anchored with the theme “Youth of Today, Leaders of Tomorrow,” the activity intends to establish a Confederation of Youth for Peace and Development (YFPD) to increase the awareness of the youth on their vital role on peace and nation-building, and develop a responsible youth members as a Third Party Advocates in support to the peace and development initiatives, programs and projects of the Government.
Aside from the customary team building activities, the RYLS was also filled with significant lectures on family and community; role of the youth in the community; strengthening on team spirit; understanding the role of the youth on peace and development, and development of project proposal discussed by the subject-matter experts from stakeholders and partners of the 3ID. Participants were also given an opportunity to showcase their talents, culture and tradition during “Gabi ng Kultura,” one of the sidelights of the RYLS.
In his message, Col. Arevalo encouraged the RYLS participants “don’t wait for tomorrow to become leaders because you can be leaders now. Leaders are not only limited to old people. You can be leaders now in your own field and in your own way.”
Arevalo also urged the participants to start practicing being leaders today for them to become better leaders of tomorrow. “You have the full potential of becoming good leaders especially after undergoing the RYLS. It gives you a basic foundation on how to become good leaders not only of your community but also your country as a whole,” he emphasized.
The RYLS ended through the signing of Manifesto of Commitment to Peace by the guests, facilitators and participants.
