NPA denies killing NegOr broadcaster

From the Visayan Daily Star (Jul 28): NPA denies killing NegOr broadcaster

The New People’s Army Leonardo Panaligan Command strongly debunked police claims that they were involved in the recent killing of broadcaster Edmund Sestoso, in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

At the same time, rebel spokesman Ka JB Regalado, in a statement issued by the LPC, said that a certain Dondon Bustamante, tagged as a suspect in the death of Sestoso, who was also killed Saturday in Brgy. Poblacion, La Libertad, is not connected to the NPA.

Regalado said that the NPA was the first to condemned the killing of Sestoso.

Based on their investigations, he said Bustamante is a civilian and a “habal-habal driver”.

Bustamante was on his way to Guihulngan City from a cockpit in Brgy. Cantupa, La Libertad, on board a motorcycle, with a back rider, when he was shot at close range, by two motorcycle-riding suspects.

He died on the spot, and his companion was wounded.

Regalado in a statement he issued even linked the Armed Forces of the Philippine and National Police to the killing of Sestoso.

The NPA also demanded justice, not only for the death of Sestoso, a former member of the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines – Dumaguete chapter, but also of Julius Barellano and other victims of media killings.

Eyewitnesses said the killers of Bustamante were wearing jackets and full-faced helmets. Police recovered from the crime scene six empty shells for a .45-caliber pistol, and two cellphones of the victim, among others.
