‘Rebels’ torch bunkhouse, backhoe

From the Visayan Daily Star (May 8): ‘Rebels’ torch bunkhouse, backhoe

Suspected New People’s Army members struck again last night in Brgy. Tan-awan, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, and burned a backhoe heavy equipment, a generator set, and a bunkhouse of workers constructing a dam in the area.

Capt. Ruel Llanes, 303rd Infantry Brigade spokesman, said last night that about 20 armed men participated in the commission of the atrocities.

Llanes said the NPA terrorists also fired their guns before fleeing from the area.

The extent of damage has not been determined yet.

Llanes also said there is an ongoing construction of a dam in the place.

Two months ago, the NPA also claimed responsibility for the burning of a cargo truck and a tractor in Canlaon City and La Castellana town, respectively.

Llanes said they already dispatched troops to hunt the fleeing armed men.
