Troops of the 42nd Mechanized Company of the 4th Mechanized Infantry {KALASAG} Battalion conducted a law enforcement operation in Barangay Lumba Punod in the town of Pantar, Lanao del Norte against the Maute-ISIS remnants around 2:30 in the morning, February 8.

The early dawn firefight resulted in the death of three local terrorists group members–only one was identified as Omar Mustapha Daiser, a resident in the area.

The troops also recovered seven high-powered firearms; four armalite rifles; one M203 grenade launcher, one Pietro Beretta 9mm pistol with PNP property marking along with three Bandoleers and assorted ammunition.

There were no casualties on the government side, said Lieutenant Colonel Eliezer P. Valdez, Jr., Commanding Officer, 4Mech Infantry Battalion, Philippine Army.

BGen. William Alunday, AFF, Commander, Joint Task Group-Lanao del Norte said that Daiser is a fugitive who escaped from Marawi City jail, joined the Maute-ISIS group, and was utilized as ISIS contact person in Pantar during the Marawi rebellion.

“The subject has a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of robbery with homicide issued by the Marawi City Regional Trial Court. He is known to be an illegal drug user and pusher, and a follower of Solitario Ali, former mayor of Marawi City who is involved in drug trade, said Alunday.

Daiser and the two other unidentified terrorists were shot dead after resisting arrest and fighting it out with the enforcers, he added.

Murillo AFP, Ist Infantry Division Commander said, that the government forces will continue to intensify its internal security operations in Joint Task Force ZAMPELAN’s (Zamboanga, Peninsula, Lanao) area of operations to neutralize the remnants of terrorists groups in Marawi.

The cadavers were taken by the PNP Pantar for proper disposition. Daiser was claimed by Pantar Municipal Councilor Bokari Abdulgani while the other two bodies were brought to Capin Funeral Homes in Iligan City said Police Senior Inspector Muhammad E. Doro, Pantar MPS officer in charge.
