Police have launched a manhunt against two men who lob0bed a fragmentation grenade at the town plaza Wednesday night that left eight people injured here.

Supt. Bernard Tayong, spokesperson for North Cotabato police office, said Senior Supt. Jonathan Tangonan, provincial police director, also directed police chiefs of adjoining towns of Alamada, Libungan and Midsayap to help locate the suspects.

The grenade attack happened during the culminating program of the town’s 36th foundation anniversary on Wednesday night. Most of the victims were followers and relatives of Sanny Khadil, chair of Barangay Tinimbacan, Banisilan, according to Senior Inspector Wilson Mangcay, town police chief.

Mangcay said Khadil, a Maguindanaon, is locked in a long standing “rido” (family feud) with another Moro family. He was unharmed in the incident, police said.

Those injured in the incident were Pinggawi Khadil, son of the village chief, Jeffrey Salunayan, Joel Amas, Samrud Mamukaw, Datu Ali Mamukaw, Siraduna Pananggulong, Pedro Labosares and Esmael Canedo.

The victims were inside a makeshift booth of Barangay Tinimbacan at the town plaza when unidentified men tossed a fragmentation grenade inside it. Tayong said several suspects are now being pursued by the poilice.
