From Update Philippines (Dec 9): LOOK: Former sister of PH frigates now in Manila

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) today, December 9 welcomed Vietnam Coast Guard (VCG) patrol vessel CSB-8020. CSB-8020 can be considered as former sister of Philippine Navy’s three Gregorio del Pilar-class frigates BRP Gregorio del Pilar, BRP Ramon Alcaraz, and BRP Andres Bonifacio.

CSB-8020, BRP Gregorio del Pilar, BRP Ramon Alcaraz, and BRP Andres Bonifacio are all former Hamilton-class cutters of United States Coast Guard (USCG).

CSB-8020 was transferred to Vietnam in May 2017.

It was transferred to improve the Vietnam Coast Guard’s maritime domain awareness, increase its capacity to perform maritime law enforcement operations, and conduct search and rescue and other humanitarian response operations.
