CAMP GUILLERMO NAKAR, Lucena City (DWDD) – The Southern Luzon Command, AFP has intensified its Internal Security Operations in line with the pronouncement of the President on the termination of peace talks with the Maoist – led rebels and considered them “ terrorists “ because hostilities had continued during peace negotiations. NPA rebels suffered another humiliating defeat in the hands of government forces in Nasugbo Batangas, a military official said.



Major Engelberto Nioda Jr, Group Commander of the 730th Combat Group, Special Operations Wing (SPOW), Philippine Air Force stationed in Nasugbo town in Batangas said that the combined elements of his unit, the Batangas Provincial Public Safety Company and Nasugbo MPS dealt a decisive blow against the Batangas – based rebels during an encounter at about 8:30 pm, Nov 28, 2017 which resulted to 14 NPA killed , two (2) wounded rebels who were brought by the government troops to the nearest hospital for immediate medical treatment. The soldiers confiscated 12 high-powered rifles, one (1) M79 grenade launcher, various types of ammunition, subversive documents and personal belongings.

He said that he sent a platoon of soldiers together with some PNP officers to check on a report of the presence of armed men in Nasugbo after a call from a concerned citizen.

“A tipster saw armed men boarding a jeepney and a closed van in the evening of Nov 28. This information was also validated by another villager who claimed to have seen the rebels boarding the said vehicles believed to be heading towards Tagaytay City,” said Nioda.



The group of soldiers and policemen who verified the reported presence of armed group, were fired upon by the rebels who were on board the two vehicles and a running gun battle ensued in two separate encounter sites : one in Sitio Pinamuntasan, Bgy Aga and in Sitio Batulao, Bgy Kaylaway all of Nasugbo, Batangas that lasted for about 30 minutes.

Five soldiers suffered minor injuries and are now in stable condition.

BGen Arhulfo Marcelo Burgos Jr, 202 Brigade Commander, who has operational jurisdiction in the provinces of Batangas, Cavite, Rizal, Laguna and part of Northern Quezon province, directed government forces for pursuit operations against the NPA rebels. He also confirmed that the rebels belong to a group of communist rebels operating in Batangas who are planning to conduct terroristic actions in the province and possibly in Cavite area.

Burgos also emphasized that the encounter is a perfect example of the AFP Development Support and Security Plan (DSSP) at work. He lauded the AFP troops, PNP personnel for their immediate action and the civilians who provided the timely information regarding the rebels’ presence.

BGen Ernesto RavinaJr , Acting Commander of Southern Luzon Command said “The AFP will continue to intensify our Internal Security Operations against all security threats particularly with the CPP-NPA-NDF anchored on the pronouncement of the President on the termination of peace talks with the Maoist – led rebels and considered them “ terrorists”.

“All our operations are within the framework of the rule of law and respect for human rights to protect the Filipino people and to ensure stable security condition in the area. Our healthy relationships with the various stakeholders in the province combined with our “Development Support and Security” efforts in Batangas and other areas of SOLCOM paid off leading to this accomplishment.” concluded Ravina.
