As part of the provincial government’s humble recognition of the heroism of soldiers from North Cotabato, the provincial council will display streamers and tarpaulins along major highways in the province.

“The streamers and tarpaulins will bear praises for soldiers from North Cotabato who died and survived fighting Maute and Abu Sayyaf gunmen in Marawi City,” Boardmember Socrates Piñol said in a phone interview.

Piñol filed a resolution recognizing the heroism of North Cotabato soldiers, which the provincial legislative body immediately and unanimously, approved Wednesday.

“This is to honor our brave soldiers who are from North Cotabato and served for five months in Marawi City, including those who survived,” Piñol said.

Earlier, the provincial council, in the separate resolution, honored six soldiers who died in Marawi since the conflict erupted in May.

The provincial government also extended financial aid to the families and widows of 1Lt. John Carl Morales and Sgt. Marlon Baldovino, both from Kabacan, Sgt. Eric Coros of Libungan, Cpl. Elmer Bueno of Alamada and Cpl. Angelo Estores, Jr. of Pikit, and 1Lt. Junrich Legada of Midsayap.
