Three police personnel who were wounded in action in an anti-insurgency operations against communist rebels received distinguished medal awards and cash assistance.

Chief Supt. Rolando B. Felix, Caraga Regional Police Office chief, personally handed over Thursday (August 3) the “Medalya Ng Sugatang Magiting” award to re Police Officer 1 Ricky Arcite, Police Officers 1 Danilo Valenzuela and Diomar Guiral at a local hospital where both are recuperating.

Valenzuela and Guiral, who are assigned to 13th Regional Public Safety Battalion (RPSB), also received cash assistance amounting to P50,000 each. They will also receive a separate cash assistance from the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund, said Supt. Martin M. Gamba, PRO-Caraga spokesperson.

Valenzuela and Guiral sustained gunshot wounds during an encounter with an undetermined number of New People's Army (NPA) rebels in an upland village in Nasipit town, Agusan del Norte, Tuesday morning (August 1).

Supt. Gamba said the rebels were believed to be conducting "extortion" activities in the area when the encounter occurred.
