Posted to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front Website (Jun 23): Malacañang Palace Declares June 26 As Regular Holiday In Observance Of Eid’l Fitr

MILF Implementing Panels and BTC commissioners are invited on the occasion of Eid'l Fitr 2017 in Malacañang Palace.

Malacañang Palace through Proclamation Number 235 has declared Monday, June 26, 2017 as regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Fitr, the feast which marks the end of fasting in the month of Ramadhan.

"The entire Filipino nation should have the full opportunity to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance of Eid'l Fitr," the proclamation stated.

Eid’l Fitr is one of the two holidays celebrated by Muslims all over the world. The other one is Eid’l Adha, a feast which marks the culmination of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

The declaration was recommended by the National Commission of Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) aimed “to bring religious and cultural significance as well as national consciousness on the occasion.”

During Ramadhan Muslims fast abstaining from drinking, eating and indulging in sexual acts that starts shortly before the break of dawn till sunset.

They are also more engaged in praying, meditating, giving charity, and seeking forgiveness from the Almighty.

Ramadhan is very significant for the Muslims for it was in this month when the Holy Qur’an was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w).

It is the highlight of Eid’l Fitr where Muslims gather for a morning congregational prayer held in open spaces or mosques wearing their best clothes.
