From Update Philippines (May 21): Navy to receive Assault Crafts with provision for missile system tomorrow
The Philippine Navy is set to receive 3 Multi-purpose Assault Craft (MPAC) Mark IIIs tomorrow, May 22. This was revealed by MaxDefense Philippines in a Facebook post.
“MaxDefense finally received confirmation that the Philippine Navy will formally receive the 3 brand new Multi-Purpose Attack Craft (MPAC) Mk. 3 from Propmech Corporation by tomorrow, 22nd May 2017, and will be commissioned into service with the Littoral Combat Force of the Philippine Fleet,” MaxDefense said.
This latest class of Navy MPAC has provision for missile system. These MPACs were built at Propmech Corporation facility in Subic Bay, in partnership with Taiwanese builder Lung Teh Shipbuilding Co.
MPAC Mark IIIs are far more advanced and capable than the earlier ordered Mark Is and IIs currently in service which are armed with guns.
MPAC Mark IIIs will be armed with the Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd’s Spike ER (extended range) in anti-ship mode capable of penetrating 1,000 mm (39 inches) of rolled homogeneous armor and has a maximum range of five miles.
Missile system and Remote Controlled Weapon Station provided by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems of Israel are expected to be installed before the year ends.
