From the Sun Star-Manila (May 21): Alleged NPA member killed in Oriental Mindoro clash 

A SUSPECTED member of the New People's Army (NPA) was killed during an encounter with the government troops in Oriental Mindoro on Sunday.

Philippine Army 2nd Infantry Division chief Major Roderick Parayno said the firefight between the 4th Infantry Battalion and around 10 members of the rebel group started around 5 a.m. while the troops were conducting an operation.

He said the NPA fled to unknown direction after they were cornered by the government troops, leaving their killed comrade behind.

Recovered from the encounter site were one 9mm pistol, live ammunitions and one hand grenade.

Parayno commended the cooperation of the public and urged them to continue cooperating with the government forces in pursuing the hunt against the member of the NPA.
