From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Mar 22): Philippine Navy graces LIMA 2017 opening
The Philippine Navy (PN) the Flag Officer in Command (FOIC), PN, Vice Adm. Ronald Joseph S. Mercado attended the opening ceremony of the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Exhibition (LIMA 2017) conducted yesterday, March 22, 2017.
The Aerospace segment tipped off at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre (MIEC) which showcased top of the aircraft and aircraft accessories that could provide commercial and military grade advantages in aviation spectrum. Likewise, the launching of the Maritime segment of LIMA 2017 was situated at the Resorts World Langkawi (RWL) which featured a sea rescue capability demonstration of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN). Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak was in attendance.
“An opportunity for us (PN) to widen our knowledge particularly on modern maritime technologies”, emphasized by Vice Adm. Mercado on PN’s goal in LIMA 2017.
Included in this International Defense and Security Engagement are the attendance of the FOIC, PN in the Chief of Navy Roundtable Talks (CNRT) and the participation of BRP Andres Bonifacio (FF17) in the LIMA Sea Exercise (LSX), a half-day Multinational Naval Exercise among participating countries.
LIMA is one of the most influential exhibitions in Asia since this is a dedicated maritime and aerospace exhibition for defense, civil and commercial aviation, shipbuilding and ship repair.
The Chief of Staff Armed Forces of the Philippines General Eduardo C Año AFP and his staff were also in attendance in the said exhibition.
