From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Mar 23): Gov’t troops in Quezon encounter anew
Two weeks after the successful operation in Quezon Province wherein seven high-powered firearms were recovered (two AK47, four M16 rifles, and one M203), government troops in the area encountered anew yesterday, March 22, 2017, around 1:00 in the afternoon.
While conducting combat patrol, a squad from the Bantad Patrol Base, under the operational control of 85th Infantry Battalion encountered more or less 10 armed rebels at Sitio Kumba, Brgy San Diego Bukid, Gumaca, Quezon.
After 15 minutes of a firefight, the enemies scampered to different directions. No casualty was reported on the government while the undetermined number of the enemies.
According to MGen Rhoderick Parayno, Commander of 2nd Division, the troops are still conducting pursuit operations in order to track down the fleeing enemies.
Likewise, he stressed that the said encounter is a result of the Division’s continuous operations since the ceasefire was terminated.
“The enemies’ continuous defeat shows that the NPAs are slowly getting hard up especially that the communities are reporting their presence,” he added.
Meanwhile, after the ceasefire was terminated in February, 2ID has already recorded seven killed NPAs, seven apprehended, and two surrendered, while 12 high-powered and two low-powered firearms along with various ammunitions and explosives were recovered.
