From the Philippine News Agency (Feb 17): 2 intel operatives killed in clash by Maute Group

An intelligence major was killed along with an enlisted man following a clash with suspected Maute Group members in Marawi City Thursday afternoon.

The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. at Barangay Lilod Madaya, of the above-mentioned city, said 1st Infantry Division spokesperson Lt.Col. Benedicto Manquiquis.

He identified the fatalities as Major Jerico P. Mangalus and Cpl.Bryan Libot.

Also wounded was Cpl. Rolando Cartilla.

Manquiquis said the above-mentioned personnel, all members of Military Intelligence Group 10, were conducting intelligence operations in the area when they encountered suspected Maute Group terrorists aboard a white Toyota Corolla (ULB-391), triggering a 10-minute firefight which left Mangalus and Libot dead and Cartilla wounded.

Manquiquis said the quickly retreating bandits sustained an undetermined number of casualties.

Pursuit operations are ongoing as of this posting.
