SAF reinforces DCPO

From the Mindanao Times (Jan 13): SAF reinforces DCPO

ELITE members of the Special Action Forces (SAF) from Camp Crame arrived Wednesday night to augment the security force in the city for major events in the city this month.

The SAF troopers, exact number was kept confidential, are in addition to more than 4,000 police officers tasked to secure the major activities set in the city, including the visit of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, the ASEAN summit and the Miss Universe show.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director Sr. Supt. Michael John Dubria said the city is on full alert status due to the events.

The SAF troopers, along with the Davao del Sur police contingent, are temporarily staying at the DCPO.

Dubria said the SAF members were supposed to stay at the Police Regional Office (PRO) XI in Buhangin. But the available facilities at the police regional command were already occupied.

Dubria said that the billeting of the enforcement officers was matter they already settled.

Out of the 4,000 policemen assigned for the events, some 3,000 are not from the city.

Primarily, the gymnasium of the PRO XI was first identified. When it was already occupied, they requested for the People’s Park and the Almendras Gym. However, there was a prior function at Almendras Gym.

So they were forced to billet the some police officers at the DCPO compound, such as the covered court and the chapel.
