DCPO studies case vs NPA on cop’s abduction

From the Mindanao Times (Sep 1): DCPO studies case vs NPA on cop’s abduction

THE DAVAO Police Regional Office-XI is planning to file a case against the New People’s Army for the abduction of Chief Insp. Arnold Ongachen after accusing him of being involved in illegal drugs.

Speaking in yesterday’s AFP-PNP press conference held at Royal Mandaya hotel, Chief Insp. Andrea Dela Cerna, spokesperson of PRO-XI, said that Ongachen, chief of Governor Generoso Municipal Police Station, and P01 Michael Grande are now undergoing debriefing.

“That’s what we are studying now, what case that we can file because it turned out that what happened to Olgachen was a case of mistaken identity,” she said.

She said that the NPA was really targeting a chief of police but it wasn’t Ongachen.

“We are still trying to establish the facts on the identity of this cop because Ongachen was asked how long he has been assigned to Governor Generoso so they were not sure of their information,” she added.

She also clarified that Grande was not abducted for abusive behavior towards civilians. According to dela Cerna, the police officer was playing a basketball game that turned rough.

Apparently, one of their opponents was a relative of an NPA member.

For now, the two police officers are temporarily assigned to the Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU).

The two police officers were one of the six released by the New People’s Army last Friday.

They were turned over to Senator Manny Pacquiao in Barangay Kalapaga, Lupon in Davao Oriental.

Ongachen was abducted by NPA during an attack in Governor Generoso municipal station on May 29 while Grande was abducted last June 19.
