OSLO, Norway - The wheels started to turn on the revival of the peace process between the government and the Communist Party of the Philippines to find an end to the decades-long rebellion, with the arrival here of the CPP-National Democratic Front consultants who will make up their panel sitting across the government side at the negotiation table.
Aligned with this would be the declaration of a cease-fire between the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the forces of the CPP's armed wing, the New People's Army (NPA).
The communist leaders in exile welcomed their cohorts who came to Norway on temporary liberty from detention. Tight hugs and warm greetings bridged the gulf of a decades-long separation, since way back in the a980s.
Benito Tiamzon, CPP Chairperson, said he was heartened that CPP leader Jose Maria Sison was unflagging in his effort to secure their transitory freedom.
His wife, Wilma, said a lot has transpired in the motherland that they can share with their comrades.
In the midst of the rejoicing, the leaders don't want to lose sight of their overarching goal: To draw up reforms and changes in society that will finally bring the armed conflict to a halt.
