The 39-year-old vice mayor of Pamplona town in Cagayan was shot dead by two
motorcycle-riding gunmen at about 11:20 p.m. Friday at the house of a close
friend, police said.
Vice Mayor Aaron Sampaga was gunned down with an M-16
Armalite rifle and a Cal. 45 handgun by two men, who wore black jackets, blue
shirts and caps, Pamplona
town police chief, Senior Insp. Francis Pattad, said.
Pattad said the gunmen rode through the river control
makeshift road to enter the compound of Sampaga's close friend, Rodolfo Guzman,
and fired at Sampaga.
Guzman and their companions were unhurt.
Pattad and his men found six empty shells of an M-16
Armalite rifle and two .45 slugs at the shooting scene.
Sampaga was a three-term town mayor before he ran and won as
vice mayor during the May 9 elections.
His sister, Arnie Angelica Sampaga, won as mayor against
former vice mayor Edwin Ifurung.
