Separate armed encounters between government troops and the
New People’s Army (NPA) on Friday occurred in two towns of Compostela Valley
province, leaving three soldiers and two rebels dead, 10 more wounded and three
rebels arrested.
In a police report, the 45-minute firefight between the
Scout Platoon of the 25th Infantry Battalion and the 60-fully armed NPA rebels
under the Southeastern Command 20 of the Southern Mindanao Regional Command
(SMRC) took place in Km. 56, Barangay Rizal in Monkayo town while soldiers were
conducting field monitoring on Friday morning.
Authorities reported that those wounded were identified only
as 1Lt Damasco, Cpl Bornasal, Cpl Rebuta, PFC Lagunday, PFC Necesito , Cpl
Embo, Cpl Bayta, Cpl Mapa, PFC Lagura, PFC Sarmiento, PFC Torrefiel and Pvt
Laput.
Of the 13 wounded soldiers, three were declared dead on
arrival at the hospital. Names were however withheld pending information to
their families.
Also from the soldiers’ side, one was missing in action
identified as PFC Del Mundo.
On the side of the NPA, one female was killed and three (one
wounded) were arrested.
The 10th Infantry Division spokesperson Capt. Rhyan Batchar
said the first incident happened on Thursday afternoon when the troops of the
Charlie Company engaged in a 15-minute firefight at Km 56 in Barangay Rizal.
There was no casualty reported.
But in a pursuit operation on Friday morning, heavily-armed
rebels attacked the troops utilizing IED and high-powered firearms.
Batchar said the rebels carted away three rifles and
personal belongings of the dead soldiers.
In a separate incident in Barangay Parasanon, Maragusan, Compostela Valley , the encounter left one soldier
wounded but he later expired in the hospital.
The army troops also found the body of a rebel, one carbine
rifle, one IED and several personal belongings of the rebels.
