Davao Region a top priority in the internal peace and security operations

From the Philippine Information Agency (Jun 7): Davao Region a top priority in the internal peace and security operations

Davao Region will remain a top priority area in the government’s internal peace and security operations despite the declaration of some areas as conflict-manageable and development ready.

Major General Rafael Valencia, commander of the 10th Infantry Division issued the statement following the State of the Region Address delivered by Regional Development XI Council chair Governor Rodolfo del Rosario of Davao del Norte at the National Economic and Development Authority Office 11.

He said that since 2010, Davao Region has been a top priority area in the internal security operations nationwide considering that a large number of the rebel forces is operating here.

“The multi-agency cooperation of government and nongovernment organizations is able to reduce the number and activities of the rebels by addressing the root causes of insurgency,” Valencia said.

However, he said that Davao Region remains a top priority area in the internal security operations with many units of the Armed Forces of the Philippines operating here and in Caraga Region to address the armed component of the insurgency problem.

Governor Del Rosario stressed that a very significant development in the pursuit of a stable security environment under his watch as the chair of the RDC was the declaration of Davao Oriental and Davao del Sur as CMDRAs.

Similar declarations were also made for Davao City, Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley in June 2013, 2014 and 2015, respectively. He said that a total of 300 former rebels returned to the folds of the law between 2014 and 2015, 207 of whom availed of the Comprehensive Local Integration Program.

“The reduction in criminal and insurgency activities have indeed sustained investors’ confidence and this we have affirmed earlier that Davao Region is indeed an affirmation that winning the peace is a vital requisite for development,” Del Rosario said.
