Current Navy Fleet chief takes over Wescom

From the Philippine Information Agency (Jun 7): Current Navy Fleet chief takes over Wescom

The head of the Philippine Navy Fleet is now the new chief of the  Palawan-based Western Command.

The Armed Forces'  DWDD reported that Acting Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Glorioso Miranda presided over the change-of-command ceremony for Rear Admiral Ronald Joseph Mercado at the Camp General Artemio Ricarte in Puerto Princesa City.

Rear Admiral Mercado replaced his batchmate Marine Brig. Gen. Elvin Hermogino.

Hermogino, on the other hand, took over the Wescom leadership following the retirement of Vice Admiral Alexander Lopez in April.

Both Miranda and Hermogino belonged to Philippine Military Academy Class 1983.

The AFP called Rear Admiral Mercado a seasoned officer who had stints in varied command and staff positions in the Navy and the AFP General Headquarters.    Mercardo will remain chief of the Philippine Fleet until the AFP has identified and appointed a suitable replacement.
