Combined police and military forces have launched a pursuit
operations against a group of "rebels" in an outskirt barangay of
this town.
Senior Supt. Edwin Wagan, provincial police director, said
this came after around 15 gunmen have waylaid and disarmed four policemen
around 9 a.m. Tuesday in Barangay Gubat, 30 kilometers from the town hall.
Wagan disclosed that the policemen were checking the
reported presence of unidentified gunmen “going house to house” when they were
stopped by a woman in a secluded area.
Wagan said that at least 15 heavily armed men surrounded and
disarmed them when they stopped their vehicle.
He said disarmed were the following: SPO4 Joel Diamante; PO3
Roland Dadan; PO3 Jose Laput; and, PO1 Tristan Adaza.
Taken from them were four M-16 Armalite rifles, two caliber
.45 pistols, two 9-mm pistols and three hand-held radio transceivers.
The four policemen were also sent to Barangay Gubat “to
conduct clearing operations” since the local Liberal Party (LP) candidates led
by Mayor Jan Hendrik Vallecer are set to conduct late Tuesday a political rally
in the area.
LP’s second congressional district candidate Glona
Labadlabad is set to join Vallecer’s group. She is the wife of District 2 Rep.
Resendo Labadlabad.
Wagan said one of the gunmen claimed they were rebels, but
did not mentioned specific group. The rebels fled towards the direction of
Barangay Lipakan.
