From Sun Star-Zamboanga (Apr 1): Convicted Abu Sayyaf member arrested
THE police have arrested a convicted member of the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) in Barangay Arena Blanco, Zamboanga City Friday morning.
Chief Superintendent Miguel Antonio Jr., Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula director, identified the arrested ASG member as Toh Ventura Abdilla alias Toh Abdulla Abdulla, a resident of Landang Laum village, Sacol Island, Zamboanga City.
Abdilla was arrested around 10:25 a.m. Friday in Campung Landang Laun Drive in Barangay Arena Blanco.
The police seized from Abdilla’s possession several subversive documents and a grenade.
Abdilla denied that he is a member of the ASG, saying he is a seaweed farmer.
Antonio said Regional Trial Court Branch 12 Judge Gregorio Dela Peña last January 18 sentenced Abdilla in absentia for a period of four years and two months for illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
