Antique to host Balikatan 2016 war exercise

From the Sun Star-Iloilo (Apr 1): Antique to host Balikatan 2016 war exercise

THE Province of Antique is set to host, for the first time, the Philippine-US Balikatan 2016 war exercises from April 11 to 14 that will be participated by the US Air Force and the Philippine Air Force.

The Balikatan 2016 will take place in various areas in the Philippines, following the exercises’ official opening on April 4 and will run until April 15.

Armed Forces of the Philippines' information officer Ray Tiongson has said that several areas in the town of San Jose, Antique (Panay Island) were selected as important venues of the war exercises.

The areas are San Jose seaport, EBJ Memorial Airport at Funda Landing, and Camp Fullon in Barangay San Fernando.

The three main activities in San Jose related to Balikatan 2016 are the humanitarian civic assistance project, combined simulator support event and the interoperability operations event which included combined logistic points, amphibious landing at the San Jose seaport and air assault, and air drops at the EBJ memorial airport to take place on April 11.

The exercise is beneficial to the Philippine government and the province of Antique, especially the capital town of San Jose, in making history by hosting the Balikatan 2016, Tiongson said.

Balikatan (shoulder-to-shoulder) is an annual military exercise between the Philippines and the United States, which highlights that alliance of the two countries.
