MALAYBALAY CITY, Bukidnon (DWDD) – Army troopers on security patrol operations encountered some members of the New People’s Army (NPA) the other day in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon.
According to Captain Lorenzo Siobal, Civil –Military Operations Officer of Philippine Army’s 403rd Infantry Brigade, two soldiers were killed-in-action and they were identified as Private Nicol Sermito from Calveria Misamis Oriental and Private Norbert Romanillos of Lanao del Sur, while taken to the nearest hospital for treatment was Sgt. Elmer Cabingi of Iligan City.
Reports reaching Camp Aguinaldo showed that the encounter occurred at around 5:30 pm at Upper Lubunan, Barangay Casisang, Malaybalay City when government forces, encountered at least 7 rebels belonging to Guerilla Front 68 led by Alexander Ilesis alias Commander Wawing or Bagwis.
The firefight lasted 15 minutes before the bandits scampered towards with unknown number of casualties. Troops are conducting pursuit operations against the rebels. Zaida delos Reyes-Palanca / AES / MCAG
