From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 26): AFP holds Condura Skyway Marathon 2016 on Feb.7

The Armed Forces of the Philippines will conduct the Condura Skeyway Marathon on February 7, in line with government efforts to aid families of soldiers killed and wounded in action.

AFP public affairs office chief Col. Noel Detoyato said the event, which was started in 2008, aims to raise funds for the benefit of families of military personnel killed and wounded in battle.

The Condura Skyway Marathon 2016 is expected to attract 15,000 runners to participate in four categories of 6K, 10K, 21K and 42K runs.

It will be held in Filinvest City, Alabang.

Raul Patrick Concepcion, Vice President for Service of Condura Inc., said that the organizing group of Condura Inc. chose to donate the proceeds of the marathon again to the HERO Foundation.

Last year, over 15,000 runners were able to raise funds also for the beneficiaries under HERO Foundation Inc. with the aim to help the children of fallen heroes from the AFP.

The race highlighted the heroism of the Filipino soldiers and honor their bravery and sacrifices.

The Condura Skyway Marathon was acclaimed as the most organized annual race in the Philippines. It started in 2008 with 2,000 runners and raised money for the Tubbataha Park Rangers.

In 2009, it was able to attract 6,200 runners and raised funds for the Donsol Whale Sharks Visitors Center.

By 2010, runners participating in the race went up to 8,500, contributing funds which benefited the Ayala Foundation for the Bohol Dolphins Condura Wharf.

During the past years, the marathon raised funds for the research and marine mammal museum through the Ayala Foundation and Siliman University with 13,500 runners in 2011, and the planting of mangroves in Zamboanga de Sibugay with 13,000 runners in 2012. In 2013, 13,300 more runners raised additional funds for more mangroves to be planted in Zamboanga de Sibugay.

The AFP, as a partner of Condura Inc. in the realization of Condura Skyway Marathon 2016, will provide 20 soldiers to participate as runners to show support to the children of their fallen heroes. Other units of the AFP will also be engaged to provide security during the conduct of the event.

The Philippine Navy Drums and Bugles, Philippine Air Force Marching Band and Philippine Army Combo will also be in the event to provide entertainment.
