MATALAM, NORTH COTABATO - Five people were hurt in a grenade explosion in Barangay Poblacion in Matalam, North Cotabato, on Friday night, police said Monday. The victims were identified as Sharon Diaz, 35, Alias Dilangalen, 32, Danjan Alam, 28, Macmod Canacan, 24; and Geraldo Peralta, Jr.
Authorities eye "rido" or personal grudge as the motive in the attack.
North Cotabato provincial police director Senior Superintendent Alexander Tagum said Macmod Canacan, a tricycle driver, was the target of the grenade blast.
The victim is allegedly a relative of a suspect in a shooting incident in Matalam about two weeks ago.
The suspect in that shooting incident was arrested but the family settled the problem with the council of elders.
Authorities suspect the attack is a retaliation.
Police are still investigating the incident.
