100 CAAs undergo sustenance training in Guipos town

From the Philippine Information Agency (Dec 8): 100 CAAs undergo sustenance training in Guipos town

At least 100 members of CAFGU Auxiliary (CAA) completed the CAA sustenance training conducted by the 5th battalion, 1st Infantry (Tabak) division, Philippine Army at Camp Major David Sabido, Guipos in this town starting Nov. 20 to Dec. 4.

In his message during the graduation ceremony, Colonel Lionel M. Nicolas, commanding officer of the 5IB, said the role of paramilitary forces in the counterinsurgency operations against the Communist Party of the Philippines and the New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) is very important, as they serve as an essential component of the Armed Forces of Philippines’ (AFP) counter insurgency methodology.

Nicolas acknowledged the primary task of CAA in protecting the communities and the people from coercive and abusive acts of the communist insurgents. “You are an effective counterinsurgency force because of your proper training you acquired from us,” he announced.

Nicolas said that in the past insurgency had been a big problem in the area. Because of the CAAs’ continued service, the presence of the insurgents gradually decreased.

Nicolas also said the rigorous training is vital for the CAA members who were not only taught the theories but their applications as well. “They were sent to the field to apply the theories they’ve learned in the classroom,” Nicolas explained.

Nicolas expressed hope that the knowledge they acquired during the training would be effectively used in the performance of their duties and responsibilities as an active partner of the AFP in the maintenance of peace and order, and in providing security to the people.

Meanwhile, 53rd Infantry Battalion commander Lt. Col. Alvin Luzon was impressed with the conduct of the training inside the 5th IB headquarters.

“The training was conducted very well,” Luzon said adding “their skills were enhanced from the said training.”

Luzon also thanked the CAA members for assisting the MATAPAT troopers in their field operations for four days, a part of the AFP’s operational requirement.
