From The Star Online (Nov 9): Now to get other Jolo hostage freed, says Sabah police chief
KOTA KINABALU: Police are now focusing their attention on securing the release of engineer Bernard Then Ted Fen, 39, after Abu Sayyaf gunmen freed Thien Nyuk Fun late Sunday.
Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman (pic) said they were continuing with efforts in getting Then released. The two hostages were taken from the Sandakan Ocean King seafood restaurant on May 4.
Jalaluddin said Thien arrived in Sandakan after a six hour boat ride from Jolo island and was handed over to her family.
“Before that she had to walk a long distance. She was tired and weak because of the long travelling distance apart from some emotional issues,” Jalaluddin said.
He added that Thien, the seafood restaurant's manager, was in good health despite her six-month ordeal in the hands of the gunmen.
