There will be no security vacuum in Negros
Island despite the scheduled pull-out
of the 302nd Infantry Brigade from Tanjay, Negros Oriental on Sunday for
deployment to Bohol , the Philippine Army said.
Maj. Rey Tiongson, chief of the 3rd Infantry Division Public
Affairs Office, said the 302nd Brigade will return to Bohol
after the 2nd Special Forces Battalion was pulled out from the island.
The 2nd SF Battalion was deployed to Eastern
Mindanao last month.
The 303rd Brigade will have jurisdiction over the island’s
military operations. It will continue to supervise the 62nd and 11th Infantry
Battalions as well as the 79th Battalion, which is under the 302nd Brigade, but
will remain in Negros Oriental.
Col. Francisco Delfin, commander of 303rd Brigade based in Murcia , Negros Occidental, said the pull-out of
the 302nd Brigade from Negros is in line with
the creation of the Negros Island Region.
“The people of Negros have
nothing to worry about,” he said.
Tiongson said that the return of the 302nd Infantry Brigade
to Bohol was made after the 2nd Special Forces
Battalion was pulled out from the island.
Following this development, Tiongson said the area of
operations of 3rd Infantry Division will now cover the islands of Panay,
Negros, Cebu, Bohol , Siquijor and Guimaras.
