Military and police operatives arrested a bomb expert and former member of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front-Special Operations Group (MILF-SOG) during operations in
Col. Noel Detoyato, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) public affairs office chief, in a statement Friday, identified the suspect as Abdul Manap Mentang alias "Manny/Manap/Al-Molk".
He was arrested in Barangay Panatan, Pigcawayan, Cotabato by virtue of standing warrants of arrest issued separately by
and Cotabato City Regional Trial Courts for multiple murder and multiple
frustrated murder. Davao City
Mentang is responsible in the
Wharf and Ecoland terminal bombing in
in 2003 that killed 23 civilians and injured 127 others. Davao City
Previous investigations revealed that Mentang was included in the first batch of a 15-man group that was trained on basic demolition for urban terrorism by the Jemaah Islamiyah in 1995.
He was also known to have trained some MILF members on bomb-making during that time.
Mentang was arrested in
October 2004 but was released from jail after three months due to lack of
