From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 6): Police capture suspected NPA in combat operation

Operatives of the Provincial Public Safety Company (PPSC) of Surigao del Norte Police captured a wounded New People"s Army (NPA) suspect during a 5-minute firefight Tuesday morning in Alegria town, Surigao del Norte.

Reports from Surigao del Norte police reaching the regional headquarters here on Tuesday said that while the operating troops of the Public Safety Company were conducting combat operations 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, they encountered about 15 heavily-armed group believed to be NPA members belonging to Guerrilla Front Committee 16, under a certain Rolando Leyson Jr. also known as “Edroy” at Purok 5, Brgy. Ombong, Alegria town in Surigao del Norte.

A 5-minute firefight ensued between the said armed group and the government troopers, where the wounded rebel was captured. The captured wounded rebel was left behind by his fleeing comrades.

No casualty was reported from the side of the government. The still wounded unnamed NPA rebel was brought by the police troopers to a hospital in Butuan City, where he is presently confined.

Appropriate case will be filed against the captured NPA rebel.
