A highly decorated military officer from Kapangan, Benguet was honored with a testimonial parade by the Philippine Military Academy more than a month before his retirement on Nov. 1.

M/Gen. Yerson E. Depayso, current commander of the 9th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army in Bicol Region, has been honored by his alma mater for the services he rendered to the country in the past three decades.

Depayso, a recipient of various military awards and commendations for combat and command administration, is a member of PMA Class 1981.

The Igorot military officer is a recipient of two “Distinguished Service Star” awards for command administration and a “Gold Cross” medal for command performance in combat operations.

Two years ago, Depayso, who was then a colonel, led a pool of awardees earning the Distinguished Service Star for his effective leadership in the implementation of programs and services in his area of responsibility, as commanding officer of the 501st Infantry Brigade.

The Gold Cross is a decoration of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, which recognizes gallantry in action. It is the fourth highest military award of the country.
 
Depayso is also a respected military officer in every community he serves, receiving two “Gawad sa Kaunlaran” awards for participating in various civic projects, six bronze cross medals for heroism in non-combat situations, and16 military merit medals.

A holder of Masters in Business Administration from the Ateneo de Manila University and Masters in National Security Administration, which he finished at the National Defense College of the Philippines, he also took  up the Logistics Development Management and Army Maintenance Management Courses at the Army Logistics Management Center in Fort Lee, Virginia, USA.

He likewise finished an Executive Course on Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies at APCSS, Hawaii, USA.
