Abu Sayyaf rebels seize 10 construction workers in Basilan

From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 14): Abu Sayyaf rebels seize 10 construction workers in Basilan

The Abu Sayyaf brigands on Monday seized 10 workers of a private construction firm undertaking government projects in the nearby municipality of Sumisip, this province.

Superintendent Oscar Nantes, provincial police director, disclosed the victims were seized around 9:20 a.m. Monday in Barangay Benembengan, Sumisip.

Nantes identified the workers as Nasser Jallaha, Merhusin Ubbay, Mustapha Gapul, Abukaisir Nasilin, Jaya Abdulla, Johan Sarao, Nadzhar Garbon, Alsibar Jauhari, Margani Alpha and truck driver Munib Sadidul.

The victims are workers of the MACE Construction firm that is working on several government projects -- roads and bridges -- in the town of Sumisip.

Nantes said the victims were aboard a truck driven by Sadidul when the Abu Sayyaf brigands waylaid and seized them.

Nantes said the Abu Sayyaf brigands who abducted the workers are led by Juhaibel Alamsirul alias Abu Kik, whose group is behind several atrocities in Sumisip town.
