From ABS-CBN (Aug 23): Suspected NPA rebels burn heavy equipment in Davao
Suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels burned eight pieces of heavy equipment in four barangays in Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur on Saturday evening.
In Barangay Coronon, a grader and a backhoe were burned, and a crane and a jack hammer were razed in Barangay Tagabuli.
Another back hoe and a dump truck were also burned in Barangay Zone 1, plus two other back hoes in Barangay Darong.
The Armed Forces and police are set to begin clearing operations in the barangays today.
Authorities suspect that the rebels may have placed land mines in the area before leaving last night.
