Units of the 1st Infantry Division, together with the local
police, are now investigating the reported shootout between two rival political
groups at the vicinity of Barangay East Poblacion and Punod District, Pantar
town, Lanao Del Sur Friday.
Fortunately, no casualties were reported in the 4 a.m.
engagement between the reported followers of Pantar Vice Mayor Mangondaya Tago
and Mayor Mohammad Exchan Gabriel Limbona.
Reports forwarded by Lt. Col. Audie Mongao, 1st Infantry
Division public affairs office chief, said Tago's followers
"harassed" supporters of Limbona, triggering a hour-long exchange of
fire.
The incident motive was triggered by "political
rivalry," Mongao said.
