Free live bands will be serenading the public as the country
officially observes the first “Armed Forces of the Filipino People Week"
starting Monday.
This will take place on Aug. 30 to 31 as AFP personnel will
render a guest performance at the 4th Manila Bulletin Sketchfest in the Mall of
Asia's Music Hall in Pasay
City .
This year’s celebration bears the theme, “Sundalo, Tunay
Kang Bayani ng Mamamayang Filipino.”
The week-long celebration is anchored on
the purpose of giving tribute to the AFP soldiers, past and present, apart from
the yearly celebrated “National Heroes Day” on Aug. 31.
Starting Aug. 24 until 31, AFP units and bases are open to
the public for the Information
Awareness Drive to increase awareness of the
capabilities and duties of the AFP to the Filipino people.
AFP museums are also open for public viewing in Major
Services Camps of the Philippine Army, Philippine Air Force and Philippine Navy
during the entire week to showcase the history of the AFP and the stories of
courage and sacrifices that built it through the years.
On Aug. 29 to 30, the Major Services of AFP will also
showcase their capabilities and personnel at a Photo Display and a Live Band
Concert in Gateway Mall, Araneta Center , Cubao, Quezon
City .
The AFP will also set up a recruitment booth on Aug. 29 to

The week-long observance is in accordance with Republic Act
No. 10664, otherwise known as “An Act Declaring the Last Full Week of August as
Armed Forces of the Filipino People Week” starting this year.
The law, which was approved by President Benigno S. Aquino
III on July 6, was created “to give due recognition to the important role and
contribution of past and present Filipino Military Officers and personnel.”
The spirit of this law emanates from the important roles and
contributions tendered by AFP officers and men to national security and
partnership to socioeconomic development initiatives for the well-being of the
country.
