An incumbent barangay kagawad, who was also a former
Civilian Armed Auxiliary of the Philippine Army, was shot dead in Barangay Aya,
La Libertad town in northern Negros Oriental, at about 7 p.m. Monday.
Initial investigation showed that a concerned citizen
informed the La Libertad police that Aya kagawad Jorlan Baylon, of legal age,
was shot dead by unidentified suspects, a police report said.
Police personnel, led by acting chief, Insp. Michael Rubia,
proceeded to the crime scene and discovered that an undetermined number of
fully armed men carrying high powered firearms of different calibers ambushed
the victim that resulted to his instantaneous death.
A certain Michael Himpayan, 31, who is an active CAFGU
member, and Billy Santa Ana, 44, a neighbor of the victim, alleged that they
heard six successive bursts of gunfire and immediately went to the place of
incident to verify what had happened.
Upon reaching Sitio Manghuya, they saw Baylon on the road,
already lifeless and bathed in his own blood beside his motorcycle, about 200
meters away from his house.
The victim sustained five gunshot wounds on his body.
Recovered at the crime scene were two live ammunition of a 12-gauge shotgun,
one empty shell of 45 caliber pistol, three empty shells of 7.62 caliber M-14,
one slug of 7.62 caliber (M-14), a sling holder of an unknown rifle, and a
motorcycle.
The unidentified suspects remain at large, the police said.
