The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) sees nothing wrong
with the live-fire drills conducted by the Chinese naval forces --- as long as
it does not enter the country's 200 nautical mile exclusive economic zone.
The Chinese naval forces conducted "live firing
drills" in a bid to improve its naval combat capabilities.
Around 100 Chinese vessels, scores of military aircraft, and
missile battalions took part.
This was stressed by AFP spokesperson Col. Restituto Padilla
Wednesday.
"It’s the right of any sovereign nation to conduct any
kind of exercises that they think are relevant to their own security
interest," he added.
And when asked if this is a form of muscle-flexing by China , Padilla
made this reply:
"Any kind of military exercise is always subject to the
interpretation of an outsider, so an outsider who is bias(ed) against that
country can initiate negative comments but from our perspective that is being
their right."
