Posts on social media sites like Facebook can make users
targets of kidnappers if they were not careful with what they share online, a
police official said.
“Be careful of what you share online,” city police director
Senior Supt. Angelito Casimiro cautioned residents amid security threats in
this city.
Casimiro said the tendency of residents to share their
location, photos of their houses, and other personal details online would
endanger their safety in light of reports that kidnappers are browsing social
media sites to pick targets.
“We got information from the Sulu area that they are looking
at the Facebook accounts of people in Zamboanga City
He disclosed that bombing and kidnapping remain the top
threats in this city.
He said they also engage the communities to be early warning
mechanisms as part of target hardening measures of the local police.
He said coastline patrol and sea-borne operations were also
being intensified to further secure coastal and island barangays.
He said the continued “security hardening” has so far
deterred kidnapping incidents in this city.
“If you look at the nearby provinces, that’s where the
kidnappers are doing their activities as they believe that Zamboanga City
is being hardened, and we will continue to do the hardening of Zamboanga City
Recently, the police and military conceptualized and adopted
a security plan dubbed “PuMA” or “Pulis-Marines-Army” deployment and stepped up
security measures in this city.
