The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) will sponsor a
musical variety show on Monday as a tribute to Filipino war veterans for
gallantry in defending the country against the Japanese invaders during World
War II.
Retired Armed Forces Lt. Gen. Ernesto G. Carolina, PVAO
administrator, said the musical show dubbed as “Musikagitingan 2015: Alay sa
Bayaning Beterano” will be staged at 2:00pm, at the AFP Theater in Camp General
Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City .
“The celebration of the Musikagitingan 2015 will culminate
with a Tribute to World War II heroes who have shown exceptional military
services, excellent courage in combat, and selfless sacrifice in the faithful
performance of their duty to God, country and their fellow Filipinos,” Carolina said.
Admission is free and open to the public. Registration will
start at 1:00pm.
With the theme, “Ipunla ang Kagitingan sa Kabataan, Ihanda
ang Beterano ng Kinabukasan,.” The observance of the Philippine Veterans Week
is pursuant to Executive Order No. 23, s.87 that declared April 9 of every year
as a national holiday for the observance of Araw ng Kagitingan and Proclamation
No. 466, s. 89 that designated the period April 5 to 11 of every year as
Philippine Veterans Week to promote, preserve, and memorialize the principles,
ideas, and deeds of our war veterans as a means to enhance patriotism and love
of country, especially among the youth of the land.
Earlier this month PVAO sponsored a special film screening
of the multi-awarded movie, “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo.”
Monday’s musical show is in partnership with the National
Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the Technical Working Committee as
part of the observance of the 2015 Philippine Veterans Week and 73rd Araw ng
Kagitingan next month.
The event is aimed at honoring the Filipino veterans through
a mix of song and dance numbers.
Award-winning entertainers are also set to perform on stage
for the MUSIKYAW portion of the event.
These world-class performers include Mr. Ony Carcamo who is
known as the Philippines’ premier ventriloquist; Spyro Marco, the 2013 Winner
of the 4th Talentadong Pinoy Grand Winner of a Philippine reality talent show
who is known for his diabolo or Chinese yo-yo tricks; Ms. Marielle Corpuz, the
2010 Grand Champion Performer and Vocalist of the World of the international
competition, World Championships of Performing Arts (WCOPA); Next 2 Innocence,
the hip-hop dance troop who is the 2010 Philippine Representative of World
Supremacy Battlegrounds International Competition in Australia and 2010
Champion of Groove Philippines National Competition; and the St. Dominic Savio
College Cultural Dance Troupe, the Best Cultural Group in the 24th Annual ALIW
AWARDS for Live Entertainment in 2011.
